A Jewish Immigrant Reflects On the Muslim Immigration Block by Ronnie Olesker
When I look into the bright blue eyes of my youngest daughter, a color that neither I nor my husband and our closest family members share, I often wonder whether those came from my Ukrainian-Polish genes. It is impossible to know since most of my family perished in the Holocaust. Some sought refuge in other states, only to be denied. Every time I look into those bright blue eyes I am reminded of the real consequences of a ban on immigrants.
The heavy feeling of a history wiped off the face of the earth, the unknown source of blue eyes staring at you every day only because others were afraid, and because they turned that fear into hate and dehumanized them for their religion. What will we tell our children when they ask what did you do when the Muslim ban was implemented?
