- 3 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon butter

Recipe Notes
- Make your own homemade pie crust recipe or use a frozen pie crust.
- You can shave chocolate bars for the topping. In a hurry? Use chocolate chips.
- Store the pie covered in the fridge.
Here's how to make it:
- Add sugar and egg yolks to a large bowl and beat together with a hand mixer.
- Add the cocoa powder, cornstarch and salt. Mix again until blended.
- Blend in the milk in gently with a fork or wire whisk.
- Place a large saucepan on the stove top on medium. Pour the batter into it. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring often, until the mixture thickens enough to stick on the back of a metal spoon.
- Remove the pot from the heat and add the butter and vanilla. Stir. Place to the side to cool a bit.
- Pour the chocolate pudding mixture into the pre-baked pie crust. Place into the refrigerator until completely set and cooled, 2 to 4 hours.
- When you are ready to serve, remove pie from the fridge and smooth on whipped topping. Grate a small piece of chocolate over the whipped topping if desired, and enjoy!
