How Scarlett Johansson Really Feels: Two Hot Films, Her Marvel Future, Woody Allen & a Pick for President by 30Seconds Mom

The Hollywood Reporter shared a deeply personal cover story featuring the world’s highest-grossing actress, Scarlett Johansson. Despite two hot awards contenders – Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit – and her Avengers spinoff Black Widow all coming to the big screen, Johansson isn’t afraid to say how she really feels about Disney, her pick for president and Woody Allen.

On supporting Elizabeth Warren in 2020: “[Warren] feels like someone who is thoughtful and progressive but realistic. It’s not like her campaign is making these crazy, outlandish promises that seem impossible to reach. There’s a strategy there.”

On voting: "I really believe if people actually did vote, our government would look the way it’s supposed to, but people just don’t vote. It baffles me.”

On Woody Allen: “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”

On Time’s Up: “It was almost like you found something you didn’t even realize you needed,” Johansson says of the conversations she began having with her female colleagues. “It was when I first understood what the word ‘triggering’ actually meant. Now it’s part of the zeitgeist, but it was like, ‘Oh. Oh, the thing I’m feeling. That’s what triggering means.’ I didn’t know. Suddenly, you didn’t have to take it anymore.”

On divorce: “[Baumbach and I] talked a lot about the actual experience of divorce because I was in the middle of the process [while shooting Marriage Story]. We talked about becoming a parent, and our parents. The expectation that comes with being in any kind of a relationship, and the disappointment that can come with that expectation.”

On potentially being an awards contender: “I haven’t really been involved in the mix of awards season for a long time, so I’m not sure how I feel exactly. Maybe a little out of my element?”

On her plans to direct: "Before, I was more focused on my acting career. Now, I'd happily take the time to develop something to direct. I've actively looked for a long time and just haven't found the right fit."

On Black Widow's death in Endgame: "The finality of it was sad, but I was excited to die with honor. It felt in-character that she would sacrifice herself, of course for humanity but actually for her friends, for the people she loves. It was bittersweet."
