The Easiest Pork Wontons Recipe Ever Is Foolproof (20 Minutes) by Donna John

Usually when I think of wontons, I think of them floating in a bowl of seasoned broth. Yes, wonton soup. But now I'm thinking about wontons in a whole different way thanks to this quick and easy pork wonton recipe. These wontons stand alone without a broth and are a delicious meal for busy nights. No joke! These stuffed wontons are almost foolproof!

To make these Asian pork-filled wontons you will need just seven simple ingredients. Here is what you need to grab: ground pork, green cabbage, fresh ginger, garlic, green onions, low-sodium soy sauce or tamari, and wonton wrappers. Everything but the wontons is mixed together in a bowl, placed on a wonton wrapped, sealed and boiled for a few minutes. Grab your favorite sauce and dinner is done.

After these wontons are cooked, you can toss them in a sauce, drizzle them with a sauce or serve the sauce on the side. I like things a little spicy, so I tossed mine in chili oil crunch. My husband chose to drizzle his with sweet chili sauce. Hoisin sauce would also be delicious on the wontons. And, it goes without saying, that these pork wontons would be wonderful floating in a broth for a quick wonton soup. They would also make wonderful appetizers served with various Asian dipping sauces. I served mine with jasmine rice and sauteed bok choy.

Ingredients

• 3/4 pound ground pork
• 1 1/2 cups finely shredded cabbage
• 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (I used three Dorot Crushed Ginger cubes)
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 4 green onions, chopped small
• 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
• wonton wrappers (about 20)

Recipe Notes

• Be sure to finely shred the cabbage so it will cook quicker. Large pieces of cabbage may not get tender during the cooking process.
  

• You can do only the amount of wontons you need, and save the remaining meat mixture and wontons to make later.

• You could use ground chicken instead of pork.

Here's how to make it:

1. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Combine the ground pork, cabbage, ginger, garlic, green onions, soy sauce and black pepper, to taste, in a mixing bowl.
   
2. Stir to combine.
   
3. Lay the wontons out on a work surface. Add about 2 teaspoons of the meat mixture to the wonton.
   
4. Wet the edges and fold up to seal. It doesn't matter the shape of the wonton, just so that the edges are completely sealed so the filling doesn't come out during the cooking process.
   
5. Repeat with the remaining wontons.
   
   
6. Put the wontons into a pot of boiling water.
   
7. Cook until they float, about 3 to 4 minutes.
   
8. Remove with a slotted spoon into a bowl. Toss with desired sauce or serve the sauce on the side. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh chives, if desired.
